The purpose of this study is to evaluate the loneliness experienced by female older adults newly living alone and how they cope with this issue. This study analyzed the data collected after conducting one-on-one interviews with eight female older adults using Colaizzi¡¯s phenomenological research method. As a result of the analysis, the process of overcoming loneliness for the participants was divided into four categories (¡°Left alone,¡± ¡°COVID-19, which broke the participant¡¯s will to meet with other people,¡± ¡°A journey to be together in the midst of COVID-19,¡± and ¡°Hand in hand, over the wall of loneliness¡±) and 10 thematic bundles. Analysis results suggest that psychological and emotional support programs, mentoring programs, establishment of management standards for senior citizen community centers in the event of an infectious disease, and the strengthening of the informal support system could be effective to fight loneliness. These methods could help female older adults who are living alone to live with dignity.
